As soon as you walk in, chances are our books are the first thing that grab your attention! Yet, if you take a closer look, there's more than what meets the eye.
The Friends love to share the gift of reading to everyone, especially those in need. One of our amazing volunteers, Nancy (as seen above), helps organize, pack, and distribute boxes upon boxes of quality used books on a weekly basis to various organizations and charities. Instead of throwing away duplicate titles or books that are not sold in the bookstore, the Friends recycle these books back into the community. Whether it's continuing the education of those incarcerated or providing teens in need with exciting adventures with every flip of the page, the Friends are there to help!
Here are just some of the organizations/charities the Friends proudly service:
-Broward County Sheriff's Office
-Palm Beach County Prisons
-Habitat for Humanity
-VA Sunrise Clinic...And More!
Nancy was glad enough to provide her insight in regard to providing donations to these organizations/charities, especially the Broward Sheriff's Office, which happens to receive the largest donation of books:
Q: The Friends provide the BSO with the largest donation of books. What are your thoughts on donating books to those who are incarcerated?
Nancy: "Giving the books to the BSO allows us [The Friends] to educate individuals so they may better themselves. We can always learn from reading a book...Even at visitations, there are children's book for the young ones to have fun reading."
As you can see, the Friends of the Boca Raton Public Library provide both quantity and quality to meet the needs of the community, charities, and organizations alike!

*DONATIONS ARE ACCEPTED 10AM-5:30PM TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY AT OUTSIDE DOOR TO THE BOOKSTORE ONLY*
THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE NOT ACCEPTED:
-ITEMS THAT ARE DIRTY, SMELLY, DAMP, OR IN BAD CONDITION
-ENCYCLOPEDIAS
-MAGAZINES AND COMIC BOOKS
-VHS AND CASSETTE TAPES
-VINYL RECORDS
-THE ONLY FOREIGN LANGUAGE BOOKS WE ACCEPT ARE: SPANISH, PORTUGUESE, ITALIAN, FRENCH, AND GERMAN
